Malformed hips getting more and more painful as an adult.

Torvi, a 4-year-old German Shepherd, has been struggling with hip dysplasia that’s only getting worse. She has severe malformation in both hips, a bone spur on the left side, and muscle wasting that makes it painful for her to move. Her vet says the best option is FHO surgery, removing the damaged femoral head—starting with her worst side. Because she’s young and lean, Torvi has a great chance of making a good recovery with surgery.

Virginia and her husband brought Torvi home from a backyard breeder four years ago, paying $800 just to rescue her from neglect. As the runt of the litter, she had already been picked on and carried scars when they found her. With patience and behavioral training, Torvi transformed from a fearful, food-aggressive pup into a loyal and deeply bonded companion.

She even went through police dog training! But she was ultimately deemed too reactive. Still, Torvi has thrived in her family, enjoying agility work and scent training—until hip pain forced her to stop.

Now Torvi struggles daily with mobility. Rest and medication haven’t helped, and without surgery, her condition will only get worse. Virginia, a veterinary technician, and her husband Jim, a senior manager at FedEx Office, have stretched their budget as far as possible. But with household bills, caring for Jim’s disabled mother, and supporting their other rescue pets, they simply cannot cover the cost of this unexpected surgery alone.

They are able to contribute and have also gotten money from friends and family, so Torvi’s procedure is well funded, but not completely funded. To get her this life changing surgery, Torvi needs donations. She is young, determined, and has her best years ahead of her.
