About the Campaign
Junie is a 6-month-old female Goldendoodle who has been diagnosed with an ectopic ureter—a congenital condition where the tube that should carry urine into the bladder empties in the wrong place. That’s why Junie has been leaking urine, and it’s not something she will simply “grow out of.” The bigger concern is that this abnormal flow is compromising her left kidney, and her specialist says she needs surgery before she turns one to prevent irreversible kidney damage.
Charlene adopted Junie after seeing an online ad. The breeder gave Junie to her for free because Junie had been returned by a previous owner, and the breeder said she “leaked a little” and would outgrow it. Charlene quickly realized something wasn’t right. Her primary veterinarian didn’t feel comfortable making the diagnosis alone and referred Junie to an internist/specialist—where Charlene finally got the answer: ectopic ureter, and a kidney at risk.
Charlene loves dogs, and Junie was meant to be a companion for her other small dog, Ollie, a Mini Dachshund. Junie is sweet, gentle, and still just a baby—only around 8 pounds at five months—yet she’s already dealing with a condition that requires advanced care. Charlene is determined to get Junie the surgery that could give her a normal, healthy life.
The obstacle is cost. Charlene is a full-time student in a clinical psychology doctoral track at George Fox University and is supporting herself primarily through student loans. She lives alone with Junie and Ollie, and there simply isn’t extra money available for a major surgery. Charlene’s parents are older, retired, and living on Social Security, so they aren’t in a position to help financially either.
Charlene moved to Oregon for school and is doing everything on her own. Junie originally came from California—Charlene’s parents even helped by picking Junie up and supporting Charlene as she tried to get her medical needs addressed—but now the reality is clear: Junie needs surgery soon, and waiting too long could mean permanent damage to her kidney and a lifetime of complications.
Donations will help cover Junie’s ectopic ureter surgery and related veterinary care so her kidney can be protected while she’s still young enough for the best outcome. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Thank you for helping Charlene give Junie the healthy future she deserves. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
