A rare condition requires a specialized spay.

Freya’s routine spay turned high-risk fast. She’s a 1.5-year-old Doberman who tested positive for Von Willebrand’s Disease (vWD), a bleeding disorder that makes standard surgery dangerous.

Audrey first booked Freya at our high-volume Spay/Neuter clinic. Because Dobermans are at higher risk for vWD, our clinic policy is to require testing or refer to a full-service hospital with the equipment and blood-clotting support these cases may need. Freya was tested, and came back positive. This means she now needs a specialized “love spay” (laparoscopic, lower-bleed approach) at a full-service clinic. It’s the safest plan, but it’s also much more expensive.

Freya was rescued in Sanger, CA—skinny, with crudely docked ears and tail—and she’s blossomed into a sweet, playful park buddy. Spaying her safely now helps prevent life-threatening emergencies later, when any surgery would be riskier because of vWD.

Audrey and her husband, Stephen, are stretched. Audrey is a stay-at-home mom; Stephen works in bank accounting; their daughter, Chloe, is starting college. They’re still paying vet bills for pets they took in after a family loss, plus recent medical expenses. They didn’t plan for the added cost of a high-risk spay—but they’re doing the right thing for Freya. They are able to pay part, but cannot make the total Freya needs.

URGENT UPDATE: Freya had a heat cycle in September. Due to her condition these are very hard on her. She can expect another early next year. She really needs to be spayed before that!
