About the Campaign

Dental care with a bad heart

Ziggy, a 10-year-old Chiweenie, urgently needs dental treatment—but first he needs a heart ultrasound (echo) to make sure it’s safe to put him under anesthesia. He had a serious seizure under anesthesia when he was neutered at 4 months old, and now his vet has heard a heart murmur. Without the echo, his dental work is risky. Without the dental work, his mouth will keep hurting and his health will decline.

Kathleen adopted Ziggy when he was just 4 months old from a military couple who were rehoming him on Craigslist. She believes he wasn’t treated well in that home. Kathleen had just lost a beloved dog named Lulu to cancer and Cushing’s disease, and when she saw Ziggy’s photo online, she knew she had room in her heart again.

Not long after, Ziggy almost died during his neuter surgery when he had a true seizure under anesthesia. He has never had another seizure since, but the memory of that close call never left Kathleen. Now that a heart murmur has been heard, his vet wants a full cardiac workup—especially an echo—to understand what is going on before any dental procedure starts.

A partner nonprofit, Lionel’s Legacy, has agreed to help by doing Ziggy’s dental work. Kathleen has also worked hard to line up two grants of $350 each, for a total of $700 toward his care. Even with that support, there is still a significant remaining balance for the heart echo, dental procedure, and related care that she simply cannot afford.

Ziggy has been her little shadow. Kathleen has done everything she can, including securing grants and low-cost help, but she’s out of options without outside support.

Your donation will help pay for Ziggy’s heart echo and the dental treatment he needs so he can safely go under anesthesia, get his painful mouth fixed, and enjoy his senior years in comfort. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate of costs HERE.
