Zelda

About the Campaign

Zelda is a 9-year-old female Chihuahua with Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue in Oregon. She was adopted out about five years ago, but was recently returned in heartbreaking condition. Zelda now has two major medical problems: a severe dental infection and badly damaged knees.

The dental infection is the most urgent issue. When the rescue picked Zelda up, they could smell the infection in her mouth right away. She is digging at her mouth, fighting when anyone tries to touch it, and her foster reports that she has started biting people and other animals because she is in so much pain. This is not who Zelda normally is. She is hurting. (See video above)

The veterinarian wants to treat Zelda’s mouth first and immediately. Some of the worst teeth are in the back, and the infection needs to be cleared before it causes more pain or creates further health risks. Dental infection can also put strain on the heart, which makes this even more important for a senior dog.

Zelda also has bilateral luxating patellas, meaning both kneecaps are unstable and can slip out of place. That will likely require complex specialist surgery later, but right now the rescue has to focus on the infection that is causing her daily pain.

Zelda originally came to Soul 2 Soul as a stray from a shelter. She was adopted into what everyone hoped would be her forever home, but the adopter’s daughter recently reached out and said her mother could no longer care for Zelda. When the rescue saw Zelda again, they were shocked by how much she had declined.

Soul 2 Soul took Zelda back, and now they are trying to get her the care she should have had before. Donations will help cover Zelda’s urgent dental surgery, extractions, anesthesia, antibiotics, pain medication, follow-up care, and then the next steps for her knees once her mouth infection is under control.
