About the Campaign

Family Dog has a Bad Knee

Snowy’s journey began with a sorrowful event, as Lisa’s previous dog passed away. An elderly neighbor had died, leaving behind his two young dogs. The granddaughter could only keep one, so Snowy was in need of a new home. Fortunately, Snowy got along with Lisa’s cats, paving the way for a new chapter in both of their lives.

Snowy’s tale took a turn in April 2023 when she began to limp. Initially, it seemed minor, and even after some benign growths were removed, and x-rays were taken, nothing significant showed up. The limping came and went, disappearing for a while, only to resurface in October more severely, with Snowy unable to put weight on her left leg.

A visit back to the vet confirmed a torn ACL in her left knee, a diagnosis that brought both worry and significant financial concern. Treatment commenced with Adequan Canine injections once a week for six weeks, followed by a maintenance dose every three weeks, alongside Carprofen pills. Despite these efforts, the treatments have done little to alleviate her condition, with costs already surpassing $1000.

Lisa’s circumstances add another layer of complexity to the situation. A former Firefighter Paramedic in Florida, Lisa suffered a spinal cord injury in a car crash in 2008, which led her to rely on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for her livelihood. With a monthly income of $1130 from SSDI, managing Snowy’s medical expenses presents a considerable challenge.

Snowy’s best friend is Horus the cat, and Snowy can’t chase Horus around the house right now because she has to rest her knee, so as to not cause permanent, uncorrectable damage!

It’s hard to find extra money for an expensive surgery like this. Most families need help. I appreciate free animal doctor for making this donation stream possible. Hope this unplugs a torrent of donations. 💜

Sounds like snowy and her mum both need help. I wish it could be more, but there are so many in need of assistance.
