Help Samirah Get Life-Saving Chemotherapy

Samirah, an 8-year-old Pitbull, and after a recent cancer diagnosis and leg amputation, Samirah now needs chemotherapy to knock out the remaining cancer.  Her owner Dawn is struggling to cover the cost of her care, after having maxed out her credit paying for the amputation.

Samirah has always been a fighter. In August, she suddenly started limping in pain, and within days, a vet discovered cancer in her leg, leading to a quick amputation. Despite the surgery, Samirah bounced back almost immediately, hopping around the house with all the energy and spirit of a healthy dog.

This isn’t the first time Samirah has had health challenges. She had two TPLO surgeries in the past but recovered well and remained healthy. She has always been a strong, loving dog, and with her ninth birthday in December, she deserves every chance to live a full, happy life.

The family is doing everything they can to support Samirah’s treatment. Dawn’s daughter, Celana, works as a vet tech at the clinic where the amputation was done, and her son-in-law, Kurtus, works at the clinic administering Samirah’s chemo. Dawn is completely disabled and lives on Social Security, making it difficult to pay for these life-saving treatments. After already spending $4,000 on the amputation and first chemo treatment, Dawn is exploring all options to afford Samirah’s care—including hosting yard sales, bake sales!

Despite all this, the family has four other dogs, twelve cats, and five rabbits—many of whom were fostered and ended up staying—making it all the more challenging to manage unexpected veterinary bills.
