Painful Thorn in Her Paw
Ruby Tuesday, a spirited 12-year-old Beagle–Terrier mix, has something embedded deep in her paw—likely a thorn or splinter—that won’t come out on its own. She’s been obsessively chewing at it for weeks, and now surgery is the only option to stop the pain.
Her owner, Alison, had hoped the object would work its way out naturally. But Ruby’s discomfort has only gotten worse, and now it’s clear she needs veterinary care to remove it under sedation. Without surgery, Ruby will continue to suffer—and Alison is heartbroken that she can’t afford the procedure on her own.
Alison raised Ruby from a puppy—the only girl in a litter from a friend. Ruby had the look her partner Joe loved, and the fiery personality that made her stand out. Over the years, she’s been the feisty heart of a household full of animals: two other dogs, a cat, and a pig named Waddles!
Right now, Alison is facing an overwhelming combination of challenges. A former nurse, she’s trying to get on disability due to severe rheumatoid arthritis. She’s finalizing a divorce, her ex stopped paying alimony, and her car’s transmission just failed. On top of all that, she’s struggling to put food on the table.
Still, her biggest concern is Ruby: “She’s in pain. I feel like a terrible dog mom,” Alison shared. “I just want her to feel better.”
The surgery to remove the foreign object is estimated at several hundred dollars. Every donation helps, and all funds will go directly to the veterinarian providing Ruby’s care.
