About the Campaign
Rosie is a 14-week-old female Pug/Pincher mix who weighs only 7 pounds and has fractured her hip bone. Her veterinarian says she needs surgery so the injury can heal properly and so she can grow up with a functional, pain-free leg. Right now, Rosie needs one more X-ray to finalize the surgical plan, and then Lalaina must put down a deposit to get the surgery scheduled.
Rosie’s injury happened suddenly during play. She was zooming around with the other dog and made a quick juke/fake-out—then immediately cried out in pain. Lalaina was inside while her brother watched the dogs. When Lalaina heard Rosie crying, she checked on her right away. Rosie eventually fell asleep and seemed calmer, so Lalaina waited for a regular appointment the next day and took her in as soon as she could. The diagnosis was devastating: a hip fracture in a baby who should be bouncing around, not facing orthopedic surgery.
Lalaina has only had Rosie for about a month. Rosie came from an accidental litter shared on social media. Lalaina wanted to give one of the puppies a good home, and when she met Rosie, it was clear Rosie had already bonded with Lalaina’s other dog, Nibbles. Lalaina originally hoped to take both puppies home, but she couldn’t afford the initial vetting and shots for two—so she brought Rosie home and promised to take care of her.
Lalaina has already spent about $2,000—all the money she had—on Rosie’s care so far. She applied for CareCredit and was declined. Now she’s facing the next, unavoidable steps: more imaging, a surgical decision (the vet is still determining the exact approach and whether a bone graft is needed), and the deposit required to get Rosie on the surgery schedule.
Financially, Lalaina is stretched thin. She’s a self-employed esthetician who gets paid day to day and has to work constantly to cover basic bills—especially rent, which is about $2,500/month. As a small business owner, she doesn’t have benefits, paid time off, or a safety net. Missing work means falling behind fast. She’s doing everything she can, but a major orthopedic surgery for a puppy is simply beyond what she can pull together alone.
Donations will help cover Rosie’s remaining diagnostic X-ray and the deposit and veterinary costs needed to schedule and perform her hip surgery, so she can heal properly and grow up without lifelong pain. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
