About the Campaign
Roo is a 1-year-old female brown tabby with a broken hip and a fracture on the other hip. Jessica does not know what happened to her, only that Roo disappeared for 22 days and came home thin, weak, and walking strangely.
Roo had gotten out while Jessica was watching her sister’s house. When Jessica came home, the other cats were there, but Roo was gone. For more than three weeks, no one knew where she was. Then one day Roo finally came back, but she had lost a lot of weight and something was clearly wrong with her legs.
Jessica took Roo to the vet, where X-rays showed the injuries to both hips. Roo is so young, and Jessica had not even realized how badly she was hurt because Roo was not showing pain in an obvious way. Now she needs veterinary care so the doctors can decide the best way to help her heal.
Roo first came into Jessica’s life through her sister, who helps people with stray cats. Roo was living around a trailer where the cats were not being fixed, and when Jessica’s sister went there to help, Roo kept following her and did not want to be left behind. When Jessica met her, she knew Roo was meant to come home with her.
Jessica is a single mother on SSDI because of kidney failure and has been on dialysis for 16 years. Her daughter, Madison, recently graduated high school and helps as Jessica’s caregiver. Jessica is in subsidized housing and has only a very small amount left for the rest of the month. She also already used CareCredit for another cat’s urinary crystal emergency and is still paying that off, so she has no access to credit.
Roo made it home after 22 days missing, but now she needs help healing from the injuries she suffered while she was gone. Donations will help cover Roo’s exams, X-rays, pain medication, orthopedic care, follow-up visits, and any surgery or treatment needed for her hips. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
