About the Campaign
This is Romeo
Romeo is a 6 year old Mastiff Pit mix. He loves to run, play, and enjoys days at the dog beach with his mom Mercedes. He was rescued in 2011 at the age of 3 weeks while Mercedes was working with a local animal rescue. They’ve been inseparable since!
What Happened:
We don’t exactly know how but we assume from all the running and jumping Romeo wore down his legs and unfortunately ruptured his ligaments in both hind legs. This caused him to develop arthritis and experience lots of pain. In early 2017, Mercedes took him to Panorama Vet Clinic. Her attending veterinarian suggested a surgery called Tight Rope surgery. Mercedes set up a fundraiser for Romeo and received generous donations from all the people who’s hearts had been captured by Romeo’s wonderful spirit. Even famous American radio personality, Ryan Seacrest donated to his surgery.
Finally once the funding was complete, Romeo received surgery on both hind legs. BUT something didn’t feel quite right. After recovery, Mercedes and Romeo were so excited to get back to the dog beach and with no objections from the vet, they went out to enjoy the day. A day that started out as fun and care free turned into storm of pain Romeo and flurry of worry for Mercedes. Romeo had reinjured himself and his legs were practically loose. When they asked the vet about this they were told it’s normal to reinjure after this surgery.
After beginning her new job at the VCA, Mercedes learned a lot about Romeo’s condition. She learned the Dos and the DON’Ts and a big DON’T was having tightrope surgery done on a large dog especially not by a general surgeon for a case that required a specialist’s hands.
What Romeo Needs Now
What Romeo needs now is TPLO surgery on both hind legs. Although a whooping $14k on the lower end, Mercedes receives a 40% discount which makes our goal total 7k. We will run our first campaign for his first surgery and then we will have 3 more months for the second campaign. The procedure will be done at VCA West LA and we’re certain that with this new found info and awesome team of people behind him, Romeo will be walking on all fours again soon.
Mercedes does all she can when it comes to caring for Romeo’s general care and bumps along the way. However, this bump in the road is a bit too big for her to handle on her own! After being denied CareCredit and already have fundraised for the first unsuccessful surgery, she came to us at Free Animal Doctor. She loves Romeo with all her heart and simply doesn’t want him to be in pain.
Conclusion
Romeo needs help!! Please help this handsome guy be on his way to Recovery ! Follow his story on our page and Mercedes gave her Instagram account which is chalk full of pictures and memories of this adorable guy.
