About the Campaign

This is River

At just 4 months old, River needs to get an above the elbow amputation. But that’s not all. This sweet girl has been through so much already. When her ownder Gina took her in, River was covered in Ticks and Fleas! After treating her and getting River back on her feet, River got Parvo. And although Parvo is such a force to be reckoned with River survived!

Now that hard times were over River was happy to be a puppy again. But as a normal Husky Puppy River is just as curious as ever. Two weeks ago, Gina came home to Find River on top of her wooden table. When she came through the door River jumped down and landed right on her elbow and immediately began wailing.

Gina rushed her to the vet where they took x-rays and told Gina that River’s elbow had dislocated. They gave her only 2 options. $3800 surgery with a specialist or euthanization. After a few days, they gave her the option of amputation. They put River in a cast and left Gina with a decision to make.

That’s when Gina and River reached out to us. We connected her with the amazing Dr. Little at Pasadena Veterinary Specialists and after a closer look and more x-rays she determined that River’s elbow was in fact not dislocated but BROKEN (Fractured in two places). And if diagnosed correctly and treated immediately (within days of the injury) River would be able to go back to normal life. However, things didn’t go accordingly and Surgery at this time will not help River because her puppy bones have been growing so fast and already healing itself. So, an above the elbow amputation is the only solution.

This was very difficult news for Gina. After all, he wanted to do everything she could for River and save her leg if it was possible. Gina is determined to still make River’s life the best that it can be.

Gina and her family have wanted a husky forever and now that they have River, euthanasia is completely off the table. Why put down a puppy so full of life? Gina recently gave River her name because she says, “River goes with the flow of things”. Which such an awesome personality we’re sure she’ll bounce back like it’s nothing! Who needs 4 paws anyway!

The faster River can receive amputation the faster her life can get back on track. At this time movement is limited and her arm is unusable. She can’t walk or put too much pressure on her paw. We want to get this adorable puppy back to moving and playing around as soon as possible.

Even if it’s just 3 paws!
