About the Campaign
Riley is an 8-year-old female Boxer mix and a tripod, missing her rear left leg. She recently had TPLO surgery and a meniscus repair on her only back leg, and Christine has already paid for that expensive surgery. Now Riley needs rehabilitation and physical therapy to recover properly.
Rehab is especially important for Riley because that one remaining rear leg has to do all the work. She also has hip dysplasia, so building strength, stability, and confidence after surgery is not optional; it is what gives her the best chance to walk comfortably again and protect the leg she depends on.
Riley came into Christine’s life as a foster dog and became a foster fail in the best possible way. She had been hit by a car before the rescue took her in, and her leg had to be amputated. Christine and Edward already had other dogs, but Riley fit right in, got along with everyone, and completely melted their hearts. After everything Riley had been through, they could not let her go.
Puppy Riley when adopted:
The TPLO surgery happened on August 13th, after Riley slipped on ice earlier this year and never fully recovered. At first they tried rest and keeping her off her feet, but the knee kept popping and she still struggled. The specialist confirmed she needed TPLO surgery and a meniscus repair, and Christine made sure it got done.
The cost is the barrier now. Christine and Edward have always taken care of their dogs’ needs, but they have already spent about $6,000 on Riley’s surgery. Their senior dog, Samson, is also in heart failure and needs medication, and Christine is disabled with fibromyalgia and depression. She also just found out she needs a knee replacement herself. Everything is hitting at once.
Riley’s rehab evaluation is estimated at $348, with in-clinic rehabilitation sessions costing about $250 each. Donations will help cover Riley’s initial rehab evaluation, physical therapy sessions, laser or other recommended rehab care, and follow-up treatment so this sweet three-legged dog can heal from surgery and get back on her feet. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
