About the Campaign

Randy Barbados Is Losing Weight—He Needs a Vet Visit and Testing

Randy Barbados, a fluffy black feral cat, has started losing weight rapidly over the past couple of months. Though he’s still eating, drinking, and using the restroom normally, he’s dropped several pounds and has stopped grooming. Diana, the rescuer who’s looked after him for the past six years, is concerned something serious is going on—and Randy needs veterinary care to find out what.

Randy wasn’t part of Diana’s original trap-neuter-return plan. He just showed up one day, noticed the warm heating pads and steady meals meant for the other ferals, and decided this was home. Since then, he’s lived outside but under Diana’s care—fed daily, provided shelter, and watched over like any indoor cat.

Lately, Randy has also developed a runny nose and visible nasal discharge. These symptoms, combined with the weight loss and lack of grooming, are signs that something is wrong internally. Diana estimates the testing and treatment may cost up to $2,000, but she hasn’t even been able to take Randy in yet—she can’t afford the basic exam fee.

Diana is a full-time student who’s earned four associate degrees in four years. She’s put aside her dream of becoming a psychologist to focus on rescue work and is now looking for steady office work to continue supporting the 18 cats in her care—half of whom are former ferals. She and her husband, Neil, have already provided expensive FIP treatments for eight of their cats, and her Care Credit application was denied.

Randy has been part of their little outdoor colony for years. He chose them—and now they’re doing everything they can to choose him back. All donations go directly to the vet. Your support means this beloved streetwise cat gets a fair shot at recovery.

I’ve always had black cats. They get such a bad rap. Black cats are lucky for their owners!!
