About the Campaign

Poppy Needs Kidney Care

Sweet Poppy, suffering after being lost for six days, needs help for ongoing care

Judi adopted Poppy, a lovable 2-year-old standard poodle rescue, hoping to give her a fresh start in life. But when Poppy went missing for six harrowing days, her health took a severe turn. After being found in someone’s garden, Poppy was rushed to the vet, where they discovered that she was in kidney failure. The stress of being lost, combined with dehydration, exacerbated an underlying condition that Judi had no idea existed.

An ultrasound revealed that Poppy was born with deformed kidneys, a condition called kidney dysplasia. Poppy’s kidneys, much smaller and misshapen than they should be, have left her in fragile health. After three nights in the hospital receiving IV fluids and antibiotics, her kidney levels—dangerously high at first—have slowly started to improve. However, the road ahead remains uncertain, and Poppy will need ongoing care to give her the best chance at life.

Poppy getting a home visit from her vet:

Judi, heartbroken but determined, has already spent over $1,000 to keep Poppy alive. The vet, Dr. Sarah Dayon at the Wellness Center for Pets, has recommended a special prescription diet and continued treatments, including daily fluid therapy and regular blood work. The estimated cost for the next month of Poppy’s care is $2,000.

One of the bills for Poppy that Judi has already paid:

Poppy’s spirit remains strong. Despite her lethargy, she still wags her tail and offers kisses, reminding Judi of her bright and loving heart. With your help, Poppy can continue to receive the care she needs to manage her condition and enjoy more time with the people who love her.

Poppy has been through so much, and Judi has done everything she can to give her the best possible care. Now, they need the support of fellow animal lovers to help them overcome this challenge. Your donation will go directly towards Poppy’s medical care and will make a world of difference in her fight against kidney disease.

Please consider contributing to Poppy’s ongoing care fund. Together, we can give this brave and beautiful pup the best chance at a happy life. Below is an estimate of Poppy’s treatment costs, click to enlarge it.

Hi. Just wanted you to know that you can buy fluids, needles and IV
stand and learn how to give your sweet pup her fluids.
You can buy fluids from your pharmacy ( get a script from vet),
    needles from vet or Amazon…
Your vet can show you how to lift skin a bit and place needle in skin.
I did this for several years for my geriatric Siamese cat. I was squeamish at first but learned to do it.
It will save you a ton of money and keep her alive!
    A win win.
I wish you both many more years together.
    ♥️

Yes, the owner is doing this (for the most part) on her own and one of the vets also makes house calls.
