About the Campaign

He’s a good senior boy,

rescued from the shelter!

Pop, also known as Poppy, is a sweet senior poodle that was rescued from the Los Angeles animal shelter over a year ago. His forever foster, Holly, got him from the shelter because he was not doing well, and had been set to be put to sleep. Pop was blind, and discharge from his eyes had crusted around them and was pulling his hair, just very painful.

Pop in the shelter:

Since then Pop has had a nice, comfortable life with Holly. He got his eye’s cleaned at the vet, and Holly keeps them cleaned. He has other dogs to play with and he gets to go on short safe outings around Holly’s place. A good retirement for Pop!

But recently the discharge from his eyes is excessive and hard to keep up with, so Holly took him to the doctor. The doctor says that his eyes really need to be removed to make him comfortable. He also did a blood test, since Pop is older… and the results just came back. The doctor is fairly sure Pop has Cushing’s Syndrome. The good thing is that Cushing’s can be corrected with a daily pill, and is not a big deal as far at treatment goes. It is dangerous, causing liver and kidney damage, so it must be addressed right away. The problem is that the medication has to be pretty exact.

Overdoing the medication can lead to other serious problems, but it has to be enough to reverse the Cushing’s. This requires a special test called a Stim Test that often has to be done two or three times to get the dosage right. It’s also a good idea to get his Cushing’s under control before surgery. So Poppy needs his surgery, but he also needs his Stim Test. All donations here are for Pop and paid to his vet! Estimate for the surgery is below:

Pop is already a senior dog, but, even if he’s a senior, he deserves to live comfortably in the remaining years of his life. So if he needs eye surgery, by all means, he should have it.
