Plio is only one year-old

In November Plio was diagnosed with “luxating patellas” in both knees. Basically, both her knees were dislocating. This causes severe pain, and is a birth-defect related condition that will only get worse without surgery. You can read about this condition HERE.

Plio’s owner Katherine is a full-time student at Cal State Northridge, and did not have the thousands of dollars necessary for the specialist surgery Plio needs. Since the condition was in BOTH knees, Plio would need two surgeries, as they do one leg at a time because while recovering from the surgery Plio would not be able to use the leg for some time.

The first surgery

Plio got a donation from Kacey Montoya of KTLA channel 5 for her x-rays and consulation, and Katherine then maxed out her credit card for the first surgery, which Plio had in November 2021.

That surgery went well, and Plio has recovered well enough that it is now time for the surgery on the other knee. Unfortunately Katherine is now out of money and credit, and cannot afford this second procedure. Poor Plio is holding her leg up most of the time, due to the pain, and putting no weight on it. This could also cause a problem with her recovering knee, so this poor one year-old dog has to be on very limited walks and reduced activity, which is so frustrating for her!

Donations needed

All donations are for Plio’s second surgery, which will result in both her knees being fixed! Recovery is about 4-8 weeks, but once recovered Plio should have a normal life, and be able to walk and run normally without pain for the rest of her life! Plio is quite young, and this surgery will make a significant positive impact on her life.
