Pez

About the Campaign

Pez was born on April 8th, 2025, one of a litter of kittens whose stray mama, Sweetheart, was taken in by the rescue Paws 4 a Cause. All the kittens were named after candies, since momma was “Sweetheart”, hence “Pez”.

Pez was adopted out on August 24th to what everyone thought was a good home. He was supposed to be an indoor cat. That’s the policy. It’s in the adoption contract. Cats from Paws 4 a Cause are not to be let outside.

Two Fridays ago, Nancy, the rescue’s founder, got an email from animal control. They had Pez. A good Samaritan had found him outside, limping badly, and brought him to the shelter. The shelter did x-rays. His rear right leg was broken at the hip.

Nancy got him out of the shelter the following Monday and took him to their vet on Tuesday. The vet said it was almost certainly a car that hit him. And the adopters? They won’t return a single call or text from the shelter or the rescue. They have abandoned him.

So now Pez is back with Paws 4 a Cause, broken leg and all. He needs orthopedic surgery with a plate to fix his hip. It’s scheduled for Thursday. Nancy has already put down a $500 deposit, but the surgery is over $3000 and then there will be two follow up visits with x-rays.

Paws 4 a Cause is a small rescue. They adopt cats out for $175 and that’s their only income. They have about 30 cats up for adoption right now and more coming in soon. This was not an expense they planned for. Pez is young and otherwise healthy. Once his leg is fixed, he can be adopted again to a home that will actually keep him safe.

All donations are specifically for Pez and paid directly to the veterinarian. If you can help this kitten who already got let down once, please consider donating today. Surgery is Thursday. Thank you. Vet estimate (click to enlarge):
