About the Campaign
Peanut is an 11-year-old male Chihuahua with congestive heart failure (CHF) who needs daily medication to keep fluid from building up and to help him breathe comfortably. Right now, Peanut requires two heart medications that cost about $120 per month and his owner, Lisa, can no longer afford to refill them consistently. Without these meds, CHF can worsen quickly, leading to dangerous fluid buildup, severe coughing, and emergency hospitalization.
Lisa took Peanut to the vet last month after he started coughing. The veterinarian could hear signs consistent with fluid and confirmed congestive heart failure, which is why Peanut was started on his current medication plan. The meds are not optional, they’re what keep Peanut stable day to day.
Peanut has been with Lisa for about 10 years, and he came to her through rescue. Dreamfetchers Rescue asked Lisa to foster him after he was found living on the street. A neighbor tried to take him in, but couldn’t keep him, and Peanut was headed to the shelter, until another neighbor contacted the rescue, and they begged Lisa to help. Lisa said yes, and like so many “foster fails,” Peanut never left. Lisa has fostered many dogs over the years and has always been the person rescues call when an animal needs somewhere safe.
Now Lisa is the one who needs help. She lives alone and survives on Social Security, month to month on a fixed income. She also lives with fibromyalgia and a painful back condition, has credit card debt, and shared that after bills are paid she can barely afford groceries for herself. She has two dogs—Peanut and another Chihuahua mix named Marley—and even with friends occasionally helping with dog food, the extra $120 every month for heart medication is more than she can manage.
This fundraiser is to keep Peanut on the medication that’s allowing him to breathe and live comfortably because with CHF, staying consistent is everything. Missing refills can turn a manageable condition into a crisis.
Donations will help cover Peanut’s monthly heart medications so he can stay stable and avoid emergency decline. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Thank you for helping Lisa care for the little dog she once fostered—and ended up loving for life.

I wish I could do more. My life is almost health wise identical to Lisa. I lost my rescue boy after 7 yrs to cancer. I couldn’t afford the cost of chemo so we did our best medically and he lived for a year longer than expected.
