About the Campaign

Rescued from a high-killer, rural shelter,

this little dog found himself in a hurricane!

Parker and his sister Sugar were in a litter of Chihuahuas dumped on Clewiston Shelter in Florida. It is a small, underfunded shelter, already full and so they whole litter was set to be put to sleep. So a group of local rescues got together and saved them all. Parker and Sugar went to Bailey’s Way Rescue located in Fort Myers.

Sugar and Parker:

In this area rescues assume that any dogs rescued like Parker and Sugar will need heart-worm treatment, which is about $250 per dog, along with all the other vaccines, spay/neuter, etc. So, Bailey’s Way Rescue knew it would cost about $1000 total to rescue Parker and Sugar and get them healthy, and ready to be adopted.

However, an x-ray of Parker revealed that his heart was enlarged. He is only about 3 years old, so heart-disease or some similar condition seemed unlikely. He went to a cardiologist, which cost the rescue another $600, and the diagnosis was a very very bad case of heart-worms. There are too many, too thick in his heart already, and the regular treatment will not work. Parker needs urgent heart surgery!

Cardiologist fee:

He is otherwise healthy, and active. The diagnosis is very good, with surgery. The doctor expects he will make a full recovery, his heart will heal and go to normal size, and he will have a normal and happy, healthy life!

BUT, here is the problem: Hurricane Ian. Parker and Sugar rode out the hurricane. They and their foster family are ok. But right now, no one is in a position to help this local rescue. Baily’s Way has spent over $1000 on Parker so far, and about $500 on his sister Sugar. They just do not have the funds for surgery, which is close to $4000, and their usual bases of donors, most in Florida are in no position to donate right now!

So that is where Free Animal Doctor and FABULOUS donors like you come in! With the technology of the internet this little rescue in Florida can now reach out to the whole country for help! And they need it. All donations are for Parker, for his heart surgery. Let’s save this little guy’s life and get him the heart surgery he URGENTLY needs now!
