Snake bite to the face!

Oh poor Paco!! Just a little five pound Chihuahua, the snake might have weighed more than him!

Paco lives out in the dry hills between Los Angeles and San Diego, its a little house on old ranch, and the house has a gated back yard. He went out at night to use the bathroom, back in June, and never yelped or made a noise. He went out, came back in, no one noticed a thing for minute.

Then his face swelled up. Really big, weirdly big, and Angie took him to the nearest emergency vet. She got Care Credit and used all of it and what money she had for the emergency care. The vet said he thinks it was a rattlesnake, they did blood tests and everything, and managed to stabilize Paco, and get the swelling down.

So why the messed up eye still? Well, once stable and patched up Paco went home. Angie’s Care Credit was maxed out, and she works at a cashier at a small local restaurant. She didn’t have the money for the surgery Paco needs, which is about $2000.

Paco is just six years old. He’s blind in that eye, it just needs to be properly removed and closed up. He’ll be fine for another 10 years or more after that, assuming he learned his snake lesson! Angie did, no more going out in the yard alone. The truth is Paco is lucky to be alive, a little dog like him easily could have died from this, and we say if for nothing else: making it through a rattlesnake bite when you are only five pounds yourself sure deserves some support! I mean, that is a tough little Chi right there!
