About the Campaign

Radiation to Beat Cancer

Returned to the shelter TWICE for being “too much”, but when Kim and her husband Matt walked into the shelter, Oliver was the first dog they saw. Kim knew instantly: he was the one.

They adopted Oliver in 2014 from their local Pennsylvania shelter, he had been rescued from a puppy mill. Today Oliver is an 11-year-old Hairless Rat Terrier with a big personality—and an even bigger bond with his family, including their daughter Mya, who Oliver follows and protects 24/7.

Oliver and Mya:

Now Oliver needs life-saving care. What was once believed to be a harmless fatty lump on his shoulder has been diagnosed as liposarcoma, a cancerous tumor that requires extensive surgery and follow-up radiation. After several vet visits and misdiagnoses, the true extent of the problem was finally revealed by a specialist: Oliver needs surgery from his neck to his hip, followed by four rounds of radiation.

Despite the delay in treatment, the oncologist is hopeful—Oliver’s prognosis is good with proper care.

Kim and Matt have already paid $2,600 for vet visits and previous procedures. They both work full-time—Kim in surgical authorizations, Matt in administration at mental health group homes—but as a middle-class family, they’re just getting by. They don’t qualify for aid, but they also don’t have thousands lying around for emergency cancer care.

Your support will help fund Oliver’s surgery and radiation, giving this sweet old boy the chance to keep making memories with the family who never gave up on him. All donations paid only to the vet. Estimate for treatment below, click to enlarge:
