Remove a Painful Mass
Olive, a 9-year-old Labrador–Pit Bull mix, has a large mass growing near her upper thigh and tail that now needs to be surgically removed. It has been slowly getting bigger for about a year, and despite pain medication, it’s reached the point where her family has to act.
Earlier this week, Olive saw her veterinarian in Granada Hills. Blood work was done on Monday and, thankfully, everything looks good there. They haven’t said yet whether it’s cancer, but they’ve made it clear that the mass should come off soon for Olive’s comfort and health.
Olive means everything to her owner, Imelda, who is 85 years old and has no children. Olive was given to her nine years ago as a companion by a friend of Imelda’s nephew, Gerald. Since then, Olive has been her constant source of joy and comfort. As Gerald told us, this dog is like his aunt’s daughter.
Imelda first noticed the lump about a year ago, and it’s been growing steadily. She took Olive to the vet back in March, started her on pain medication, and got X-rays and an initial estimate. But the cost was more than the family could afford, so they have been doing what they can to keep Olive comfortable. Now the mass is too big to ignore, and surgery can’t be put off any longer.
Imelda is retired and lives on Social Security. But there’s simply no room in her budget for a several-thousand-dollar surgery, no matter how much she loves Olive. The good news is that Olive’s lab work looks strong, and her vet feels she is a good candidate for surgery. With help covering the cost of the procedure, medications, and follow-up care, Olive can have many more comfortable senior years by Imelda’s side.
All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. We think the vet is offering a lower cost price for this procedure than usual, the estimate is below, click to enlarge:

Seeing Olive with that painful tumor and her owner by her side pulled at my heart. Olive deserves to spend the rest of her days happy, healthy and with Imelda to love her. I want to help.
