Molly’s teeth are falling out…
Molly is an eight year old Yorkie Poo mix that needs her teeth to be cleaned, polished and some teeth pulled. Some of her teeth have fallen out already and her mom, Ginny is worried the longer she waits the more teeth will get infected or fall out.
As you may know 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have some sort of active dental disease. Periodontal disease can cause more problems than tooth pain, says O’Morrow. For example, dogs with unchecked gum inflammation may be at higher risk for heart, kidney, and liver disease. Once the problem is under way, treatment depends on its stage, though initially all treatment requires an exam and X-rays to determine the presence (or absence) of disease.
Diagnosed with a liver issue
About four months ago Ginny noticed Molly was drinking a lot more water, more lethargic looking and a little wobbly. Turns out Molly has Hepatic microvascular dysplasia.
Hepatic microvascular dysplasia (HMD or MVD) or portal atresia is a disorder where mixing of venous blood and arterial blood in the liver occurs at the microscopic level. In affected dogs, the microscopic blood vessels within the liver are underdeveloped or absent.
Free Animal Doctor pays 100% of the money raised directly to Molly's vet. All donations are tax deductible.
