About the Campaign

Cancer Confirmed

MojoDoozi—Mojo for short—is a spunky 6-year-old pug who recently underwent surgery to remove a concerning growth near her vulva. Thanks to your incredible support, we were able to fund that procedure and get the mass sent to pathology.

But now the news we were hoping to avoid has come: the growth is cancer—specifically, a mast cell tumor.

The biopsy revealed that the tumor had no clean margins, meaning cancer cells were found right up to the edge of the tissue. That’s bad news—it means the cancer wasn’t fully removed, and Mojo now needs a second, more extensive surgery. Her new surgical team at MASH (Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital) is confident and experienced, and Mojo’s surgeon, Dr. Strom, has a solid plan in place. He’s performed countless complex tumor removals over his 8 years there and has thoroughly reviewed Mojo’s case.

Two additional tumors have been found—one on Mojo’s stomach (new), and one on her shoulder (previously dismissed but now scheduled for removal too). The tumor near her vulva has grown redder and larger since the initial surgery, and to prevent a devastating, life-altering outcome, the surgeon must now remove a wide 1-inch margin of tissue around it—meaning a much more intensive and invasive operation.

Mojo will be monitored closely during her recovery, including overnight hospital stays under veterinary supervision at MASH. This gives Micki great peace of mind, knowing her best friend will be in safe, caring hands throughout.

Micki, a background painter in animation, has been trying to get back on her feet while living on Social Security. She already stretched beyond her means to make the first surgery happen. Now, with cancer confirmed and the stakes even higher, she simply cannot do this alone.

Mojo’s prognosis is still hopeful—this is a low-grade mast cell tumor, and with the right treatment now, we can give her a strong chance at beating this and returning to her happy, energetic self. Please help us give Mojo that chance. All donations go directly to her veterinarian. Estimate is below, and the doctor has said he is hopeful it will be on the lower end, click to enlarge:
