About the Campaign

Needs Her Knee Fixed.

Milly is a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever who weighs over 80 pounds and has a torn CCL (cranial cruciate ligament) in her back left knee. Her veterinarian has recommended TPLO surgery to stabilize the joint and relieve her pain, especially because larger dogs typically can’t heal this injury and eventually the added pressure on her good leg will lead to it being injured as well.

Nancy first noticed Milly limping in December, shortly after mopping the floor. Milly’s limp seemed to improve at first, but it returned and gradually worsened. This week, Milly stopped walking normally, and Nancy brought her to the vet on Tuesday. That’s when they learned the cause was a CCL tear—an injury that leaves the knee unstable and painful.

Milly has been part of Nancy’s family for six years. Nancy and her husband had finally settled into their home and were ready for a dog. They bought Milly through a friend of a friend for $150 (including her shots), and Nancy knew immediately she was the one. Milly was timid and gentle, with a calm demeanor that made her feel like the perfect fit for their family.

Nancy’s own health history also affects what this family can manage. She is blind in her left eye, and her work options have been limited. She also survived a serious medical crisis that left her paralyzed from the waist down due to Guillain-Barré syndrome after a flu vaccine. She worked hard through extensive physical therapy and regained the ability to walk, but she still lives with pain and ongoing medical expenses. The family has medical debt they can’t afford to pay down, and this sudden surgery need has pushed them past what they can handle alone.

Donations will help cover Milly’s TPLO surgery and the veterinary care needed to get her walking comfortably again. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Currently they only have a verbal estimate, but we will add a written one once they get it.
