About the Campaign

Step Two for Max: Fix His Teeth

Max needs urgent dental work. His teeth are bad. You can smell them. The vet says he needs a cleaning first, and after that they’ll know if extractions are needed.

Some of you may remember Max from his last fundraiser. He had a tumor on his foot that needed to be removed. Thanks to donors, that’s done. (Past fundraiser campaign here: https://freeanimaldoctor.org/campaigns/max-5/). This is step two, the last step for Max.

Max is an older Chihuahua. His owner Hazel didn’t plan on having him. Her landlady had cared for Max for 11 years. In December 2023, she died during a heart bypass surgery. Hazel stepped up. She took over care of Max and her other dog Pojei. Hazel also had to move.

After Pojei had dental surgery, Hazel noticed the smell wasn’t gone. That’s when she realized it was Max’s teeth too. She took him to the vet last Tuesday and got the estimate.

Hazel works at Shake Shack wiping tables. She makes $13 an hour, 20 hours a week. They raised her rate one dollar recently, but everything else has gone up too. She pays rent, car insurance, and that’s about all she can cover. She has two roommates. She was born in the Philippines and has no family out here in America. There’s no extra money. There’s no budget for this.

The good news is that dental work will make a huge difference for Max. Once his teeth are taken care of, he’s done. No more medical issues hanging over him. He can just be a dog. All donations are specifically for Max and paid directly to the veterinarian for his dental care. Estimate below, click to enlarge:

The procedure went well. They had his teeth done last Wednesday March 25 2026. Thank you for your concern. I wish I can post pics here but he really looked so relieved. 🌞
