About the Campaign

Mary has Osteosarcoma,

put plain: Bone cancer.

The good news for Mary is that the cancer has been identified quickly, and does not appear to have spread. The cancer is located between the shoulder and the knee on her left leg, and the doctor and a specialist both concur that the best solution is to amputate the leg.

Mary with Kiera and Caleb:

Doug rescued Mary as a puppy on Route 2 around Wrightwood, California. Doug is a truck driver, and on the slow and winding mountain road he came across a woman dumping a litter of puppies on the side of the road, in a box. Doug is the kind of guy that has a leash and bowl in his cab and car, not for his dog, but just in case he comes across a stray that needs to be saved, and in this case he ended up keeping one of the puppies: Mary.

About two months ago a bump suddenly appeared on her leg, and Doug took her to his regular vet. The doctor made the amputation recommendation, but does not do that surgery, so then Doug went to Affordable Animal Hospital in Covina, California, which is a great place offering quality procedures at reasonable rates. And they concurred with Doug’s vet, amputation is the best option.

Financial situation

A lot of stuff is going on in Doug’s life at the moment. His father has been ill, and just passed away this month. Doug has been caring for his dad and helping his mom with everything, and truck drivers get paid when they drive, so money has been tight. In addition, he has spent well over $1000 already on x-rays, blood work and medications for Mary. It is always more expensive to prepare for surgery for older dogs. Doug was able to get a small line of credit, but used it on these treatments for Mary so far.

All donations here are for Mary, for her amputation. Donations are only paid directly to the vet, and if Mary does not have the surgery, for whatever reason, donations will be refunded. Please donate in confidence today, and let’s get Mary this surgery she needs!
