About the Campaign

Urgent Dental and Nose Treatment

Mama Starlight is a lively 1-year-old torbie, but she’s dealing with serious dental disease. Her veterinarian has diagnosed painful gingivitis and stomatitis, along with rhinitis and chronic respiratory symptoms that have not fully resolved with medication.

Reni first noticed Mama Starlight coughing, snorting, and struggling to clear her nose several times a week—sometimes seeming like it was hard for her to breathe. Multiple rounds of antibiotics (including doxycycline and azithromycin) have helped, but the underlying problem remains.

Now the doctor believes there may be an obstruction or issue deeper in her nasal passages that needs to be treated as soon as possible. At the same time, Mama Starlight needs a deep dental cleaning, and she may require tooth extractions depending on what’s found. Without treatment, her mouth pain and inflammation can worsen, and eating can become harder over time.

Mama Starlight’s story started in a Pasadena colony. She showed up pregnant while still so young herself, almost as if she was asking for help. Reni took her in, helped her safely give birth, and watched her become an incredible mother to six kittens. Reni has already found homes for five of the six, and she’s committed to keeping Mama Starlight safe and cared for—because she can’t imagine sending a cat back to the streets to suffer, especially if she ends up losing teeth.

Reni is 71 years old, retired, and on a fixed income. She does not qualify for credit options like CareCredit. She also does extensive TNR work, caring for multiple colonies, and continues helping other sick cats whenever she can. But Mama Starlight’s upcoming procedure (currently scheduled for the 29th, though it may need to be moved) is beyond what Reni can afford alone.

If you can donate, you’ll be helping cover the veterinary care Mama Starlight needs to breathe comfortably and live without constant mouth pain. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. You can click on the estimate to enlarge it:
