About the Campaign
Mackenzie is a 3-year-old male cat who was diagnosed a few months ago with possible asthma. His vet did X-rays, bloodwork, and checked his heart, which looked okay. Based on shadows seen on the X-rays, they suspected asthma and started him on steroids. But now Mackenzie is getting worse again, even while on medication.
His breathing has become more concerning, and he is losing weight. He is not eating or drinking well, which makes this more urgent. Joyce says the problem first showed up as occasional coughing when Mackenzie was about a year old, got worse around age two, and became much more serious this spring. He needs to return to Hayden Pet Medical in Hayden, Idaho, for another exam and updated treatment plan.
Mackenzie came into Joyce’s family when he was about 3 or 4 months old. He originally belonged to one of her daughter’s coworkers, who got a cat despite being allergic and then realized it was a mistake. The coworker was going to release him outside, but Joyce’s daughter stepped in and took him instead. Mackenzie has been safe with the family ever since.
Joyce works as a grocery store clerk and does not have money available for another vet visit. She usually relied on CareCredit for emergencies, but her account has been shut off, and she already owes about $5,000. Her husband does not help with the cats, and Joyce is trying to care for six of them on her own.
Mackenzie needs help before his breathing, weight loss, and poor appetite become an emergency. Donations will help cover his exam, X-rays or bloodwork if needed, asthma treatment, medications, and related veterinary care. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Hope he gets a good remedy out of this! Keep him in low humidity and a good air filter in his area. That helps too.
