About the Campaign

Luna is an 11-year-old female Husky who is fighting two different cancers: a cancerous mass on her kidney and another mass on her back right leg. Bailey has already pursued specialist care and stereotactic radiation therapy, which has helped—Luna is noticeably more spry since treatment—but her veterinarian says she still needs ongoing care and the next phase may include chemotherapy and continued monitoring.

Her owner Bailey shared that the kidney mass has been difficult to sample because of fluid, and that Luna also has a mass on her back leg believed to be a soft tissue sarcoma. Even more alarming, Luna developed a large thrombus (blood clot) extending from the kidney area down toward her leg, and she is now on blood thinners. The hope is that with the tumor’s response to radiation and continued treatment, Luna could have more good time focused on comfort and quality of life.

Bailey adopted Luna in Alaska on October 30, 2016, after Luna was rescued from a heartbreaking situation in a rural village, chained under a porch where she could barely stand, having just had a litter. Luna was skittish at first, and Bailey believes she had been badly abused, but over time she transformed into the sweetest, gentlest dog, the kind strangers meet and immediately call “soooooo sweet,” taking treats softly and leaning in for love.

This all started with what seemed like a simple limp. Bailey thought Luna had twisted an ankle, but the vet found a bump and recommended deeper imaging. A CT scan revealed the foot/leg mass was only part of the story, the kidney was dominated by a large tumor. It took months to find a clinic willing and able to perform the radiation plan that gave Luna the best chance.

The financial strain is crushing. Bailey and Sean have spent nearly $25,000 on diagnostics, imaging, specialists, and radiation, mostly on credit cards. They’re running out of runway while Luna still needs treatment. Bailey is a journalist and Sean is an environmental scientist, but this has outpaced what any normal budget can handle. They haven’t even been able to have a formal wedding because everything has gone toward survival and Luna’s care. Dedicated owners for sure, now needing help.

Donations will help cover Luna’s continued oncology care, monitoring, medications (including blood thinners), and the next recommended treatment steps so she can keep enjoying more good days. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
