About the Campaign
Urgent Amputation!
Luna is a 5-year-old female Pitbull who has been diagnosed with bone cancer and needs urgent leg amputation to remove the source of pain and give her the best chance at more good time. Bone cancer can progress quickly, and waiting can mean escalating pain and higher risk of complications.
Angela first noticed something was wrong on January 12, when Luna developed a fever and a lump appeared on her leg. It took about a week to get in for an appointment, and on January 19, Luna was diagnosed with cancer. Since then, Angela has been doing everything she can to keep Luna comfortable while trying to figure out how to afford the surgery.
Angela adopted Luna from the Riverside shelter in August 2021, just three months after losing her previous rescue dog, Hades, to cancer. A friend had found Luna on the streets of Riverside, and when her stray hold ended, Angela went and brought her home. She paid around $100, and Luna quickly became family.
Financially, Angela is tapped out. She’s already spent about $1,000, which was all she had saved, and she was declined for CareCredit. She may be able to borrow some money from a friend, but not enough to cover the full cost. Angela works as an Instacart driver/shopper and lives in a friend’s guest house. She has two other dogs as well, and she shared that caring for Luna right now has become a full-time job on top of trying to earn income.
Angela has also been trying to rebuild her life after losing her business and housing in 2023 and experiencing homelessness for a period. She was finally getting back to stability when Luna’s diagnosis hit—and now she’s racing the clock to get her the surgery she needs.
Donations will help cover Luna’s amputation surgery and related veterinary care. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate is below, click to enlarge:
