About the Campaign

Epilepsy?

Luna is a 14-month-old female Terrier mix who is having repeated seizures and may have epilepsy. She’s already on two strong seizure medications taken multiple times a day, but they are not controlling the seizures—Luna is still having episodes about once a week, and just two days ago she had three seizures in 12 hours. Her veterinarian wants her seen by neurology again, because ongoing seizures can be dangerous and the treatment plan may need adjustment.

Maria has already done what she could to get Luna diagnosed and started on medication, but continuing care has become unaffordable. The neurologist wants Luna to come in for follow-up, but the cost of specialist visits, additional testing, and the ongoing price of seizure medications is now out of reach. Maria also applied for CareCredit and used it to cover part of the bills, but she cannot afford the payments and has no room left to keep charging new costs.

Maria rescued Luna off the streets of downtown Los Angeles. She saw dogs wandering near encampments and traffic and began picking them up so they wouldn’t be hit. She rescued three dogs, found homes for two, and kept Luna and another young dog, Coconut.

Luna and Coconut:

After about six months, Luna’s seizures started—and that’s when Maria learned this may be a condition Luna was born with. Coconut also has health needs, but right now Luna’s seizures are the urgent crisis.

Maria is retired and lives alone. She receives about $680 a month in Social Security and drives Lyft part-time when she can—sometimes only a few hours—just to try to keep up with rent and necessities. Her daughter used to live with her and share costs, but now Maria covers rent on her own. She’s also trying to apply for CalFresh to help with food. Maria loves Luna deeply and does not want to surrender her, but watching the seizures is terrifying and heartbreaking.

Maria is also dealing with her own health challenges, including high blood pressure and pre-diabetes, and stress worsens her symptoms. Even so, she keeps trying—because she can’t stand the thought of Luna continuing to seize without getting the care that could actually help.

Donations will help cover Luna’s neurology recheck, diagnostic follow-up as recommended, and ongoing seizure medication support so her doctors can find a plan that truly controls her seizures. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Thank you for helping Maria give Luna the chance to live safely and comfortably without constant seizure emergencies.

Hii Alyssa, I honestly don’t have the words to thank you enough for incredible generosity. Your $500 donation means so much and it’s going to help Luna in such a big way. All donations it’s truly gives me hope and strength knowing there are kind people like you who care. I’m so deeply grateful for your support… Thank you from the bottom of my heart!❤️
If you don’t mind me asking, I wanted to see if you would be willing what medications your dog was on and what helped. Luna is currently on Keppra and K-BroVet but she’s still having seizures about once a week, and I’m still trying
to figure it out what works best for her.

Only if you’re comfortable sharing.. I would really appreciate any insights or experience you might have.

Thank you again for everything. You’ve made such a deference for us❤️

I also rescued a dog that ended up having epilepsy. I’m deeply grateful and fortunate that after putting her on medication, the condition got better and so did she. I’m praying the same happens for you and you get to spend many years with Luna. All dogs deserve a chance for a happy life .
