About the Campaign
Louie is a 1-year-old male cat who fractured his hip back in April. His owner, Carolina, first contacted us on April 23rd, after X-rays showed the fracture and the original plan was a surgery estimated at about $4,000. But the fundraiser was delayed, and now it is June 24th, two months later. Before anyone can know the right next step, Louie needs to go back to the vet for a new evaluation.
Louie is not back to normal. He is walking stiffly and does not jump, run, or move the way he used to. He may still need surgery, or the plan may have changed because time has passed, but Carolina needs updated X-rays and a veterinary exam to know what is happening with his hip now and what care will give him the best chance at a pain-free life.
Carolina does not know exactly how the injury happened. Around April 11th, she woke up and saw Louie limping. At first, she hoped he had only hurt himself in a minor way and that it would improve with time. But after several days with no improvement, she took him to the vet. X-rays showed a fracture in his hip bone, and the vet said surgery was needed.
Louie has been with Carolina since he was a kitten. Her sister’s cat had a litter, and Carolina kept one. She had not planned on having a cat of her own, but Louie stood out from his brothers and sisters. He was unique-looking, cuddly, friendly, and sweet from the start. When Carolina moved out, Louie came with her. He bonded with her, and he became family.
The timing has been very hard financially. Carolina lives with her fiancé, Victor, and her 9-year-old daughter, Lylah. Carolina has been on medical leave from her job as an LA County eligibility worker since last year because of back pain, and then she became pregnant, so she has not been able to return to work yet. Victor works as a supervisor at a refrigerated warehouse company and has been carrying the household expenses on one income.
Donations will help cover Louie’s updated exam, X-rays, pain management, and whatever veterinary care is recommended next, including surgery if the new evaluation shows he still needs it. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
