Help Senior Pit Bull Leia Get Critical Heart and Leg Testing
Leia is a senior Pitbull with a severe heart murmur, and after a stroke on December 29, 2025, she’s still struggling to put weight on one back leg. She’s doing better in many ways. She is more alert, more active, even out of diapers now.
But that leg pain and weakness haven’t let up. Kevin is carrying her up and down stairs and supporting her back end when she tries to use the bathroom, because she can’t steady herself like she used to.
When the stroke happened, Kevin came home from work to find Leia had lost control of her bladder and couldn’t stand or walk. He called around to multiple clinics before Noho Urgent Care Animal Hospital in North Hollywood could see her. The veterinarian believed she had a stroke and started her on medications, including gabapentin, but they also recommended additional diagnostics to understand what’s happening with her heart and that injured back leg.
Right now, the big question is Leia’s back leg—especially around the knee. Kevin doesn’t know if the leg was injured during the stroke episode or if something else is going on, but the vet wants blood tests and three-view X-rays to see what’s happening and whether surgery or additional treatment is needed. Her heart murmur is also described as very bad, and she’s currently on two heart medications, making it even more important to get a clearer picture of her overall health.
Kevin rescued Leia after an unforgettable moment on a road in Sacramento—he and his family saw a pickup truck open a door and throw her out. She was terrified and fought being helped, and they had to gently toss a blanket over her to get her to safety. Leia bounced between family care for a time, but when Kevin finally got the chance to bring her home for what was supposed to be “three months,” it became forever.
Kevin has already paid $400 for the initial visit and medications, but he’s down to under $100 in his account and simply can’t cover the next step.
This fundraiser is to raise $1,300 for Leia’s care at Noho Urgent Care Animal Hospital, covering her medications and the recommended diagnostics (blood tests and three-view X-rays) to determine what treatment she needs next and whether surgery is required. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. With the right testing and continued care, she has a real chance to be comfortable again—steady on her feet, safe at home, and still right where she belongs.
