About the Campaign

Lakota has Osteosarcoma, bone cancer. You can read about this condition in dogs here.

Carrie, her owner, noticed Lakota was limping in early March of this year. She took Lakota to the vet, who was quickly able to determine it was probably cancer, and referred them to an Oncologist (cancer specialist). Various test, and a pre-surgical work up totaled about $1000, but it was confirmed to be cancer, and Lakota was cleared for surgery.

Unfortunately amputation in necessary, and it needs to be followed up with chemotherapy. Fortunately Carrie received a grant from Miranda’s People, to help with her surgery costs, but the total is still quite pricey.

The initial surgery and treatment will cost about $4000, and then the follow up chemotherapy will depend on the results of the surgery and the aggressiveness of the cancer.

Donations here are for Lakota’s surgery and follow up chemotherapy, and will only be paid to the veterinarians. If you would like to help Lakota with her cancer treatments, please donate in confidence, your donation will go to her treatment! Thank you and WOOOOOOF!

My little brother had osteosarcoma and had his leg amputated. It was a very painful cancer with only a 10% survival rate at the time. Having the surgery did buy us extra time with him and I’ll be forever grateful for those extra memories. That being said, I truly understand how your dog is considered family and know how important it to do everything in your power to keep them healthy as long as possible and continue making those memories. I pray the surgery goes well and Lakota recovers quickly and painlessly. Love you girl.
