About the Campaign
Kiara has a tumor in her ear. About three weeks ago a bump she had for a long time turned red, and her owner Natalia took her to the vet to have it looked at.
Kiara’s mom just moved to California from Idaho in March, and doesn’t have much money, having just gotten a part-time job as a clerk. The vet visit cost her nearly $300, but at first it looked like it might fix Kiara’s issue, as a foxtail (a type of burr) was found in her ear and removed.
But the doctor was worried, because the bump didn’t seem to be caused by the foxtail, so the doc ordered a test and was correct to be worried: Kiara had a mast-cell tumor, a cancer tumor, in her ear.
There is a more complex procedure that is very pricey where the outside of the ear can be saved, but the surgery is more extensive, along the jaw with skin grafts. Natalia thinks this is mostly for cosmetic reasons, and has elected for the lower cost, and simpler procedure to remove the tumor. This means Kiara will lose her outer ear, but she will still be able to hear in that ear. Also, this procedure is simpler, and safer, so we also agree it is the best choice. Kiara isn’t vain, she just wants the cancer gone!!
Kiara is just 7 years old, and has a long life ahead of her if she can beat this cancer. Kiara’s prognosis is very good, so let’s get her the treatment she deserves! Remember, as always, donations are held by us and ONLY paid to the doctor’s office, not the owner, when the procedure is performed. WOOOF!
