on a busy street of hotels

Fortunately, one of the people in those hotels was Donna from Soul2Soul rescue in Oregon. People had been sharing pictures of this little dog, asking for help for her as she appeared injured or sick, and Donna saw one and managed to find her!

Taken to the vet that day, she was infested with ticks and extremely dehydrated. Her right eye is “dead” from some sort of past trauma, but other than not working, it seems fine. Not infected nor painful. Her teeth aren’t very good though, some will need to be removed… and she is not spayed. However, the urgent thing is that she has a foxtail (a type of burr or thorn) embedded in her vulva.

At the vet right away:

This is causing bad swelling, and is painful. It will of course also become infected, so it has to be removed. For now she had an antibiotic shot and a pain reliever. Surgery will be next week. Due to her age (she is probably about eight) Soul2Soul wants to have all her procedures done at once, sparing her multiple surgeries and multiple anesthesias.

Cleans up very nice!

They named her Keri, and reported her info to the local animal shelter and online groups, but she is now being transported to Oregon. Once there we will have a precise estimate for her treatment, but it is going to be about $1500. Donna was in Southern California to pick up some dogs for her rescue, and was not expecting to take on another case… but someone had to save Keri, and she is actually a very sweet little girl that will probably find a great home quickly, once she is healthy!
