About the Campaign
Kali is an 8-year-old female Boston Terrier with growths in her gums that have spread over her teeth. Her owner Shavannah noticed the first one on a top tooth about a year ago. Since then more have appeared, and one has grown large. The growths need to be surgically removed and tested to find out what they are, and Kali needs a dental cleaning at the same time.
Her vet also noted in 2023 that her kneecaps are loose, a condition called luxating patella, which can be properly evaluated while she is being treated and under anesthesia. Shavannah has not been able to keep up with Kali’s vet care. She borrowed money just to get Kali examined, and she has found a clinic in Madison that will see her for a $30 first visit if a relative can cover it. The surgery to remove the growths, with biopsies is far beyond that. Meanwhile, the growths keep getting bigger, and a mouth full of masses makes eating uncomfortable.
Kali came from a small rescue about three years ago. Shavannah has not worked in about two and a half years because of her own health, including several surgeries with another coming. Her last job was at a call center. She lives alone. Her boyfriend Larry drives long-haul trucks and pays for her place, but he is rarely home and cannot afford more. She gets help from family when she can.
Oral growths in dogs are often benign, but the only way to know is to remove and test them, and either way Kali cannot eat comfortably with her teeth covered!
Donations will cover her exam, bloodwork, anesthesia, removal and biopsy of the growths, dental cleaning, any extractions needed, pain medication, and an evaluation of her knees. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. The estimate is below, click to enlarge:
