About the Campaign
A torn knee ligament,
she can no longer walk.
Jersey is a rescue dog, adopted from the Kern County (California) animal shelter about five years-ago. Her owner Jone adopted Jersey after the loss of her dog of 16 years. At the shelter she saw Jersey, scared and shy and so, so skinny… clearly she needed someone to get her out of the shelter!
Now about a year later Jersey started limping on her front leg, and it turned out she had a problem with her elbow that required nearly $5000.00 in surgery, which Jone paid for. After that Jersey was perfectly healthy and fine for many years, until about four months ago when Jersey started to have a little limp on her rear leg.
It came and went, so Jone though it might just be a sprain… but after a few more months there were days when Jone would hold the leg completely up, and put no weight on it. Jersey went to the doctor who did the elbow, who gave a rough estimate of nearly $8000.00. Thinking that was off, she got a second opinion with a specialist, which is the current estimate of about $4000.
X-rays have confirmed that Jersey has a torn ACL, the ligament in the knee, and in dogs this will not heal on it’s own. In Jersey’s case surgery is required.
Recently Jone has retired from her main job, and was working in retail on the side… but that ended with the COVID outbreak. Now she is getting by only on a fixed income, and this time cannot afford this surgery for Jersey. She has spent about $500 on the diagnosis so far, and she applied for Care Credit but was denied.
Jersey was an active and playful dog, but this painful knee problem has got her depressed… and her activity has to be restricted, because she could hurt her good knee since she is putting all the weight on the good leg now! As always, all donations are paid only to the veterinarian, not the owner. Can you help Jersey walk again today!?
