About the Campaign

Jersey Rae is a senior female Pitbull mix who now needs toe amputation after a nail injury turned into a worsening infection. What started as a toenail splitting in early April quickly became swollen, oozing, and painful. A doctor attempted to trim the damaged nail, but it continued to get worse, and now the toe is infected enough that amputation (of the toe) is the best way to stop the infection and protect Jersey’s overall health.

Jone first noticed the nail splitting and then saw pus and drainage. Despite doing what she could right away, the infection progressed. Jersey is now on antibiotics, but antibiotics alone often can’t fix a severe infected toe once the tissue is compromised—removing the toe is the cleanest way to end the cycle of pain and infection and help her heal.

Jersey is no stranger to hardship. She was adopted from the Kern County animal shelter after Jone lost her previous dog of 16 years, and Jersey was shy, scared, and underweight when Jone found her. Jone has consistently stepped up for Jersey over the years—she even paid for a major surgery in the past when Jersey needed it, and Jersey went on to enjoy good years afterward.

Now Jone is 73 and living on a fixed income. She’s retired and relies on Social Security, with no retirement savings to fall back on. That’s why this new, urgent surgery is simply outside what she can cover alone—especially after everything she’s already done for Jersey. (Jone has previously shared she’s had to rely on a fixed income and was denied Care Credit when Jersey needed expensive care.)

Jersey’s toe amputation is a straightforward procedure with a clear goal: remove the infected source, relieve pain, and let her heal. Jersey has already been through enough, and Jone is trying to make sure her senior years are comfortable—not spent dealing with a recurring infection that won’t resolve.

Donations will help cover Jersey’s toe amputation and related veterinary care. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate below, click to enlarge:

Glad to be able to help this sweet dog (who apparently has a thing against Mr. Bill) get the help she needs.
I hope her recovery is quick and she’s back on her 4 paws and 1 less toe soon!
