About the Campaign
Kitten Drags Her Back Legs.
Jane is a six month old kitten who drags her back legs. She has a fractured femur, a pelvis injury, and a dislocated hip. She needs two separate surgeries, one on each hip. The surgeon says after surgery she should be able to walk on her back legs. Right now she can move them, but she drags them because of the dislocation.
Jane was at a shelter in Charlotte, North Carolina, scheduled to be euthanized. Stephanie of Wobbly Paws Rescue pulled her the day before. The shelter told her Jane wouldn’t need any surgeries. Stephanie wasn’t financially prepared for this.
The surgeon at the shelter had said surgery wouldn’t help. Stephanie looked into it herself, found that injuries like these could be fixed, and got a second opinion. She got lucky. The day Jane came in, an orthopedic specialist was there. He looked at the x-rays and said surgery would help with pain and mobility. The prognosis is good. Jane can walk again.
Wobbly Paws focuses on cats with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Stephanie watched too many cats like this get put down at shelters, so she started her own 501c3. She has 19 cats inside, 11 pets and 8 fosters. Another 11-15 outside at her sanctuary. She just had a fence and barn built for them. She does this full time, paying her bills with pet sitting and grooming.
Stephanie knows what it’s like to fight through an injury. At 18 she was in a bad car wreck. Broke four vertebrae, her tailbone, hip, and femur. She has degenerative disk disease in her lower 12 vertebrae. She slipped a disk in her lower spine while caring for her dad, who had dementia and hip surgery before he passed in 2022. She’s dedicated her life to rescuing animals she connects with.
The shelter doesn’t know what happened to Jane. She came in as a stray in early October. Could have been hit by a car. Could have been badly abused. Either way, there’s no reason she can’t have a long and happy life. Stephanie already bought her a wheelchair just in case, but the goal is for Jane to walk. And then find her a home. All donations are specifically for Jane and paid directly to the veterinarian for her surgeries. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
