About the Campaign

Jager Mae is an 11-year-old female Pit Bull and Mastiff mix with a broken tooth and an abscess in her right lower jaw. About a month ago she cracked the tooth chewing on a hard toy she had loved for years without a problem. By the next morning her jaw had swelled with infection.

A round of antibiotics knocked the abscess down, but the infection is now returning, she is in pain and not feeling well, and because she has only three legs, the discomfort is affecting her balance. Her vet says she needs to go under anesthesia for dental x-rays before the exact treatment can be determined, then extractions and cleaning in the same session. The estimate is $1,600 to $3,000 depending on what the x-rays show.

Donors here know Jager Mae: In 2024, bone cancer in her knee meant her left leg had to be amputated, and this community funded the surgery. Early in 2025 donors covered her final round of chemotherapy. It worked. She has been cancer-free and off all chemo medication since June of this year, and Gina says she is happier and more energetic on three legs than she was on four! A tooth infection is a small thing next to what she has already survived, but left untreated it can spread into the jawbone and bloodstream, and it is already making it hard for her to stay steady.

Jager Mae came to Gina at eight weeks old from a woman who rescued animals. Gina had gone to adopt the father, but was warned he did not get along with other dogs, so the rescuer talked her into one of his puppies instead. She paid $100. Eleven years later, Jager Mae is her only dog, and they live together in Searchlight, Nevada. Gina had to take the toy away, and Jager Mae is still looking for it.

Gina bartends for a living, so her income is tips and varies month to month. Jager Mae’s cancer treatment ran up to $350 a month in medication at its peak, and while that has dropped, two years of cancer care has emptied everything. Gina recently had to downgrade to a cheaper car she could buy outright because she could not afford a payment. She barely makes it through each month and cannot cover a dental surgery.

After everything Jager Mae has come through, this is a fixable problem. Donations will cover her anesthesia, dental x-rays, extraction of the broken tooth and any others the x-rays show are damaged, dental cleaning, antibiotics, and pain medication. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate is below, click to enlarge:
