136 Small Dogs Need Help!

The Shelter Has Promised to Find them all Homes, but the Number is Overwhelming!

Animal control officers clad in hazmat suits removed dogs from a large home in a gated community in Orange that was red-tagged after 136 of the animals were found living in filthy condition, authorities said.

Video from the scene showed Orange County Animal Care officials removing animals from the home in the 3800 block of East Woodbine Avenue.

(From the OC Register: https://www.ocregister.com/2019/05/30/nearly-100-dogs-seized-at-house-in-orange-residents-cited-for-alleged-animal-cruelty/ )

ABC7 News Report:

“It was a mess. It was uninhabitable,” said Orange PD Sgt. Phil McMullin. “We suspect that they are in every single room inside the house.”

A citation was issued and the house was red tagged, authorities said.

The homeowners, who have been living in the home with the dogs, were identified by neighbors as Jo and Ed Reitkopp. He’s a lawyer, and she’s an organizer for President Donald Trump.Neighbor Lisa Paul bought a dog from Jo back in 2010

“We went in and she brought all the dogs out in this little plastic container, and we played with all of them,” Paul recalled. “The house was clean, it smelled good. We thought we were buying it from a lady who breeds Shih Tzus.

It appears from the initial information that the people involved were breeding these dogs for sale.

This is so sad. It is what happens when people view animals as “things” and not fellow species on this planet. And not just any fellow species, but one that has a centuries old record of assisting human kind.
I firmly believe that someone who views an animal as a thing to be sold for profit has lost their humanity by doing so. These are no longer people but monsters and should be punished accordingly.

Not sure why there was a need to put the breeders as Trump supporters-I stopped reading then……

We were identifying her for people who may know her, or have purchased a dog from her. This fundraiser is for OC Rescues that will be assisting, and it is known that she was selling dogs.

This is so very sad. I had Service Assistant Yorkies for Cancer Patients for 28 years and just seeing what these little Miracles have gone through breaks my heart. Lost my Punken Pie and Little Breese about a year and a half ago when I relapsed for the second time with Cancer. Punken and Breese gave so much healing and Miracles too so many for 11 years until I retired them. My only wish was to out live them and I did. My first day of Chemo in 2018 I took Breese with me for treatments. During my other treatments they comforted patients during their treatments. That day Breese was having a very hard time because of hypertension due to the loss of Punken. It was the first day Breese layed on my lap. When we returned home I layed with her and told her she was a special miracle from God and she’s done his work. I told her it was time to go see Punken Pie and Mommy was going to be fine. She was just waiting for me to tell her and passed quietly in about 2 minutes. My job was done. I asked God to allow me to out live them and my Pray was answered. Experiencing 15 years of battleing myself I wanted God to call me home. Went to bed for 3 weeks just waiting but nothing happened. I went outside to their yard and sat down. My neighbor saw me and here she came to find out what was going on. Told her about Breese’s passing and yet another diagnosis. Jasmine said, I’m here because two little dogs are dying and if anyone can save them you can. Didn’t have a clue type of dogs but was told they had been used for breeding purposes, locked in cages in a garage. My only requirement was they must not be able to jump my fence. They lady was at my house and told me the horror story about the life they lived. Had me in tears. Make sure these are Qualified Rescue Organization that these dogs need. I’ve seen and heard what some of the Rescue do for the Greed for Money. These Little One’s Lives are Priceless and need loving, compassion and kindness to help them heal. It’s been 14 months now since Lea and Shyla because my new family. All dogs can be healed with love, attention and needs. I’m Blessed once again.. God does Provide! They now are Service Assistant for Cancer. The Doctors gave me 5 days to live in December 2004 and I need to stick around for them now. I’m not your normal Cancer Patient and just live my life. Positive Thinking, Great Attitude and God carries my load. I have a wonderful Vet that I call my Guardian Angel and he was there the day they came into my life. Perfect Little Angels and what’s really strange they took on the Personalities of Punken Pie and Breese except they are toy Poodles. Walking with Angels Wish I could donate or help but my hands are full..

I would like to adopt one. How do I go about this? We have two rescues at home. Both are small breeds. I live in riverside county in Murrieta.

I am one of the very fortunate people that was able to adopt one of these wonderful fur babies. I kept a hour by hour day by day diary of “Gypsy’s” progress at home. I kept the diary for the last 4 months. I am happy to report the she has bonded to me. She has learned to go to the bathroom outside. She sleeps next to me on the bed showing a need to be close to her human. This could not have happened without a lot of work. Waiting for her to want to be with me. A lot of observation. She gets a bath every three weeks and is enjoying the bath time. We are still working on grooming as she is very frightened of noises like the grooming tools. She has had digestion issues but a spoonful of sweet potato and daily routine of a probiotic it is getting better. My little girl needs her toes nails trimmed every 2 months and the very important gland express. Both of the later I leave to the professional vet near me. In my retirement years she is a perfect companion. Oh she loves all sizes of other four legged fur babies. People it takes more time. Not trusting of people she does warm up after multiple times. Patience is everything!!!!
