About the Campaign
THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS, THANK YOU DONORS! We have raised more than we ever thought we would!!! We have raised more than enough for the heat emergency of July 6th and 7th. THANK YOU! We are also looking at ways to provide more cooling consistently, also at other shelters in southern California. If you would still like to donate to Free Animal Doctor: DONATE HERE. Also, follow our Facebook for updates please!
HOT HOT HOT
July 4th weekend, starting about July 6th, temperatures in San Bernardino, California are expected to exceed 110 degrees (44 C) and may go past 115F (47C)!!!
Special note: We have raised the money for materials for the misting/sprinkler system! THANK YOU! All donations beyond this will go to the ice fund!
We provide large blocks of ice in each kennel for the dogs. This is expensive, and only done on days when it is extraordinarily hot! So please keep donating! All of it is going to keep the dogs cool!! (The ice also helps the kitties).
We estimate that we need a total of $2,500 to provide ice all weekend during the heat-wave.
$4.00 buys one extra large block of ice. $10.00 buys one bag of three medium blocks. We will also be buying bags of ice cubes to keep the water bowls cold. The ice company is donating delivery and a refrigerated trailer to store the ice. Big thank you to Bear Ice in San Bernardino!
All the dogs are in outdoor kennels. There is a sprinkler/misting system installed that sprays a mist of cool water over the kennels. This helps lower the ambient temperature in the kennels to tolerable, if still uncomfortable, levels. Unfortunately the misting system is completely jammed and not working properly!
Volunteers have replaced all the misting heads, but the system is still not working. Further investigation by Andrea Neyses, her husband and other volunteers reveals that most of the pipes are clogged with sediment and algae.
The pipes have not been replaced at all in eight years, and some are nearly 20 years old. Volunteers are going to replace THE ENTIRE PIPE SYSTEM with brand new PVC pipe. They have already spent $300 and have run out of funds.

How you can help right now:
We are raising money for new pipes, a new full set of misting heads, and all the necessary materials to join and seal the pipes. Volunteers are donating their equipment, and skill and time. Andrea’s husband is a professional pipe fitter and is installing all the pipes at no charge. This is a hard job, done in the blazing hot desert sun!
Please, help SHARE SHARE SHARE this story so we can help these poor dogs! Please donate now if you can! All donations are paid only for materials to repair the piping of the sprinkler/misting system for the dogs.
We will be monitoring temperatures and if they do become excessive as predicted (http://www.southerncaliforniaweatherforce.com/2018/06/29/warning-massive-deadly-heatwave-and-monsoonal-intrusion-to-nail-southern-california-end-week/) we may do an ice-block delivery for the dogs as well. Any extra money raised during this fundraiser will be used for the ice. This will be a separate fundraiser later.
