Ear Infection & EC Treatment
Ginger is a tiny 4 lb rabbit with a big problem: she has a painful ear infection and suspected encephalitozoon cuniculi (EC), a serious condition in rabbits that can affect the brain and nervous system. She’s already showing worrying signs like head tilt and rolling, and she needs treatment as soon as possible. Her vet has told her owner, Tierah, that Ginger needs diagnostics—x-rays, bloodwork—and then EC treatment right away.
The scare started when Tierah’s mother, Tina, called in a panic. Ginger was tilting her head and rolling, classic EC symptoms. Tierah got the soonest appointment she could find and the vet confirmed there is an ear infection that can’t be ignored. Now Ginger needs a full workup and medication, but the total cost isn’t clear yet—only that it will be more than Tierah can handle on her own.
Ginger has been part of the family for six years. Tierah first saw her in a local pet shop while buying bird food for her grandmother. They weren’t planning on getting a rabbit, but Ginger’s red-brown fur and calm little presence stood out. She came home that day with a cage and a new life. Now Ginger spends her days going in and out of her cage, a little companion who shares the apartment and keeps Tierah from feeling alone.
Money is extremely tight. Tierah lives by herself with Ginger in a low-income housing program and is on General Relief. She did everything she could—she scraped together $275 for the exam and applied for Care Credit but was declined.
Your donation will help cover the diagnostics and medication Ginger needs to stop the infection, control the EC, and give her a chance at a normal, comfortable life again. Even a small gift goes a long way for this very small rabbit. Estimate below (click to enlarge):
