About the Campaign

Let’s get this senior sweet heart a home!

Coffee (formerly Koffea) is a good boy. A really good boy! He is house trained. He is sweet. Friendly with everyone. Good with people, other dogs, cats, you name it. He is a 10 year old guy, a senior, but still very active. He walks Runyon Canyon in Hollywood once or twice a week, and that is two miles. Loves a car ride.

Coffee is just a great dog, and yet we have had him in rescue almost 10 months, and he cannot get adopted. Why? He has Cushing’s Syndrome.

It was bad when he came in. His family had basically abandoned him after having him nearly 10 years. He got out of the house. They didn’t look for him. He was lost for days, sick, wandering the streets of south Los Angeles. In May of 2023 he wandered into a business in Watts, and collapsed on the cool tile floor.

Coffee when found:

Free Animal Doctor took him in. We found the owners, they didn’t want him back. He was bloated, hair loss all down his back and tail, bald on the top of his head. Panting all the time. Obsessed with drinking water, excessively. He had Cushing’s. But here is the thing: Cushing’s is 100% treatable. Short version, the pituitary gland messes up and causes the body to produce too much cortisol. But a simple pill corrects the body back to normal, not a big deal at all!

Coffee’s signs of Cushing’s: Hair loss, bloating. He also had a benign tumor on his neck that was removed

So why not adopted still? Well, Coffee needs about $150 worth of pills a month; his pills are about $3 a day. And then he needs a special blood test about twice a year, just to make sure the medication levels are correct, as the dosage can change over time. That test is about $400-500 each time. And this is Coffee’s issue, it is very hard to adopt a dog that needs about $2500 in pills and tests every year.

Another picture shortly after being rescued:

The solution? COFFEE’S FUND! We want to create a fund for a full year of Coffee’s medications and tests. Then whoever adopts him will have that covered by us for at least that full year (and maybe longer as his medication very likely may decrease in dosage with time). All donations will be held and paid to the vet just for Coffee, and to the pharmacy for his pills.

Coffee now! Thin, and look at all the thick, soft fur!

Let’s help Coffee get a home, let’s get him his adoption dowry!

Because I can’t bear to see a sick, abandoned creature. I only make $15.75/hr, or I’d donate more. I live in Massachusetts.

I love dogs❤️My dog had a sibling that I gave away about 11 years ago or so. Where do his original owners live. I understand that my dogs brother was put in a house in Roland Heights. He could be her brother. I know it’s far fetched but I have tried finding him for years, just want to know if he’s OK. Thanks, I’d really appreciate it if you could tell me.Please🙏

Praise God for the help to medicate him. I would like to foster him, but I would be in trouble if the medicine fund ran out. 😔 Wish I could give more.
