Oh this poor little Pug!

His ear is swollen shut and so painful

Francis Bean was in the Chula Vista, California animal shelter. He has a massive infection in his ears, which has irritated the skin so badly it has swollen his ears shut!

The shelter tried to treat him with topical medications, but they don’t work, they medicine cannot get inside the ear where the infection really is! The shelter put out a plea for a rescue to take him, and little Francis Bean is in pain, as you can see in the video ABOVE, he rubs his head all the time and whimpers. It must be like having a hammer pressing inside his head all day and night long, just terrible.

The rescue Lionel’s Legacy works with the shelter to rescue SENIOR dogs, but not usually younger dogs like Francis Bean. However, when no other rescue took him the shelter said they would have to put him to sleep, so Lionel’s Legacy took him, even though they had just helped the shelter by taking 25 (YES, TWENTY-FIVE) senior dogs.

Francis is now out of the shelter and has been to the vet. He needs urgent surgery, and will probably need at least one ear removed. This procedure, when they remove the entire inside of the ear, is very expensive because dog ears are actually quite complex and this procedure requires a trained specialist.

The good news is the doctor is almost certain it is not cancer. The doctor also suspects the ear is already so damaged that it doesn’t work, so removing it will just mean no more pain for Francis Bean.
