About the Campaign

Foxxy is a 12-year-old female Maltese mix who needs dental work and multiple cyst removals, and her veterinarian says it’s important to do this sooner rather than later because chronic dental infection can put extra strain on the heart. Foxxy has a grade 2 heart murmur and is on pimobendan twice a day, plus allergy and skin medications, and her teeth are now in such bad shape that extractions are likely.

Foxxy’s family has been through a lot with her health already. The good news is that her prior thyroid cancer is not growing back, and her heart exam recently showed she’s doing okay on her current medication plan. But Foxxy has been dealing with repeated ear infections, ongoing skin issues, and now multiple cysts that need surgical removal, including cysts on her shoulder/mid-back and one on top of her head. When the vet drained one cyst and examined her, he also saw just how severe her dental disease is and recommended doing the dental at the same time, since she’ll already need anesthesia for the cyst removals.

Karen has already spent about $500 for the recent visits, including draining a cyst, checking Foxxy’s heart, and evaluating her dental needs. On top of that, Foxxy’s monthly medications run high, with heart medication and allergy/skin treatment adding up quickly. Her surgery and dental are scheduled for the 29th of this month, and the vet’s message was clear: acting now is the best way to prevent bigger complications.

The financial barrier is real. Karen isn’t working right now due to her own heart and lung issues that doctors are still trying to diagnose. Her husband Rocky is recovering from a heart transplant in December and is doing well six months out. They’re managing ongoing health costs, and Foxxy’s monthly medications leave little room to save toward a large veterinary bill.

Karen rescued her in 2014, and Foxxy has become inseparable from Rocky, a disabled Navy veteran. She’s his emotional support animal, his daily companion, and a bright spot during recovery. Karen says Foxxy was overjoyed when Rocky finally came home from the hospital, and she continues to motivate him to keep getting stronger—she even rides with him when they go out together.

Donations will help cover Foxxy’s upcoming dental procedure (including likely extractions) and cyst removals so she can be free from infection, heal properly, and protect her heart. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
