About the Campaign

Fancy is an 11-year-old female Yorkie who needs surgery to remove two tumors that have continued to grow. The plan is to remove the masses and send them for testing, so her veterinarian can determine exactly what they are and what care Fancy may need next.

Deandre first had the lumps checked back in 2019 when they were very small. At the time, he was told they didn’t need to be removed. Over the years, the tumors gradually got bigger. He was even told at one point that it was “just weight gain,” but Deandre could see something was changing. Over the last year and a half, the growth has become much more noticeable, and he has been trying to find an affordable way to get Fancy the surgery she needs.

Fancy has been by Deandre’s side since she was a puppy, she was given to him during his second year of college to help with anxiety. He didn’t pick her out; she was a gift. But she became his constant companion through college and beyond. Deandre describes her as happy, bossy, and completely convinced that every snack in the house belongs to her. She’s not “just a pet”—she’s his best friend and his comfort.

Deandre is a full-time student pursuing a Master’s in Public Health and considering a physician assistant program. He lost his job in December, where he worked for Honda in collections, after his schedule kept shifting because he was helping care for his grandmother, who has dementia. His family rotates caregiving responsibilities month by month, and Deandre prioritized his grandmother—eventually his position was eliminated and he was forced to resign. Since then, he has been living mostly on savings and student loans, picking up extra money by dog-sitting on weekends.

Even with all of that, tumor surgery is more than he can cover alone right now. He has already been looking for cheaper options, and he’s reached the point where he’s even considering selling his vehicle to raise the funds—because he can’t stand feeling powerless while Fancy needs help.

Donations will help cover Fancy’s tumor removal surgery and pathology testing so Deandre can get her treated and know what they’re dealing with. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
